Canadian Elk 1 oz gold coin 99999
Obverse: The obverse portrays the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. The reason for picturing Her Majesty the Queen stems from Canada’s membership of the United Kingdom’s Commonwealth of Nations. By being a member of the Commonwealth, Canada has Queen Elizabeth II as its reigning constitutional monarch. Above the Queen’s effigy is her name “ELIZABETH II” and inscribed at the bottom of the coin is the nominal face value of 200 dollars and the year of mintage.
Reverse: Designed by Canadian artist Pierre Leduc, the coin features the right side-profile of a majestic elk (Cervus canadensis). Precision engraving captures the beauty and strength of this majestic Canadian species through the finest details, including the texture of its furry mane. Its formidable antlers are prominently displayed as the mature bull lifts its heavy head towards the sky to release its high-pitched roar, which is represented by the rounded sound waves that fill the proof background. Also engraved on the reverse are the words "CANADA" and "FINE GOLD 99999 1 OZ OR PUR".
