Country of Circulation and Currency Code

The Argentine peso is the national currency of Argentina. It is identified by the currency code ARS and is used exclusively within Argentina.

Travel Information for Argentina

The Argentine peso is the only official currency in Argentina. If you are planning a trip to this faraway country, we recommend preparing an amount of pesos in advance to cover your daily expenses during your stay.

If obtaining Argentine pesos is not possible before your departure, US dollars are widely accepted and may offer favorable exchange rates. However, the most convenient and cost-effective option remains the local currency – the Argentine peso.

Before you travel, you can print our Travel Currency Calculator, which provides a simple guide to the cost of goods in Argentina based on the current exchange rate against the Romanian leu.

If you plan to travel with a larger amount of money, we recommend familiarizing yourself with the cash import/export limits when crossing the Romanian border.
