According to the Value Added Tax Act, investment gold is:

• gold in the form of bars or wafers with weights accepted by the gold markets and with a purity equal to or greater than 995/1000;

• gold coins designated by order of the Governor of the Bulgarian National Bank and the Minister of Finance, which simultaneously meet the following conditions:

  • purity equal to or greater than 900/1000;

  • minted after 1800;

  • have been or are legal tender in the country of origin;

  • are usually sold at a price that does not exceed the market value of the gold contained in them by more than 80%.

In short, these are coins and bars with high gold purity (over 90.0% for coins and over 99.5% for bars) and standard form, priced close to the exchange gold price they contain. These products are a universally accepted investment instrument worldwide and are VAT-exempt.

Payments for products worth over 5,110 euros can only be made by bank transfer in accordance with the “Law on Restriction of Cash Payments”.

To sell gold products on Tavex, you need to be identified with an ID card. If the transaction is up to 5,000 euros, you can also present a Bulgarian driver’s license.
According to the current legislation in Bulgaria, when a client sells gold to Tavex, the parameters of the sale must be described in a document issued by the seller. The document must also contain the identification data of the person who issued the document. Since individuals do not issue documents, Tavex is obliged to issue a document upon purchase, which must contain the relevant details.

The photos aim to present as accurately as possible the design of the bars and coins offered.

However, the product you receive may differ in minting year. Coins and bars may also have individual, acceptable transport scratches and minimal marks from circulation. Silver products may show minimal signs of oxidation.

There may also be slight design changes across different years of production.

A certificate of authenticity can only be provided if issued by the manufacturer, refinery, or mint. Therefore, no investment gold dealer issues such certificates. Certificates are issued based on a serial number, which coins do not have. Without a serial number to link the certificate to a specific product, it has no value. For some silver products offered by Tavex, a special margin VAT scheme applies under Art. 148, para. 1 of the VAT Act. This scheme applies to goods taxed on the margin, and therefore input VAT cannot be reclaimed for these products.
